Crime solving shows fascinate our imagination. Watching detectives trail the mystery of death may symbolize our own need to track our spiritual life, death and resurrection. What crime has been done against our spirit? Where might we find new life? Asking questions like these is like gathering the bones of our history and putting together the missing pieces. In this week's lectionary readings we'll hear about Ezekiel facing a valley of dry bones. God asks him, "Can these bones live?" And then the impossible happens. They can and they do! We'll also hear the story of Jesus' friend Lazarus who passed away before Jesus could heal him. And we see another parable of resurrection-- Jesus raises Lazarus back to life. What is fascinating as Christians lies not so much in death, but in how God will give life back to us. What areas in your life are you struggling with now? Give those bones to God in prayer, and see how the life giver can create something new!
